Context

The project "Protection of Indigenous People and Their Lands in the Amazon Region - PPTAL", is part of The Pilot
Program for the Conservation of Brazilian Tropical Forests - PPG7, established for the protection of Tropical Forests and the conservation of biodiversity reducing the emission of Carbon and encouraging a better knowledge of the sustainable activities of Tropical Forests. This program started in 1990, in Houston, as a result of a meeting of the G7, made up of Germany, Canada, the USA, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom . On that occation, the participating heads of state expressed interest in supporting of iniciatives directed at the protection of brazilian tropical forests . A year later, in Geneva, representatives from Brazil and from the countries comprising the G7 defined the first phase of the PPG7 with resources amounting to US$ 250 million. Out of this figure, 20% is destined for the creation of the Rain Forest Trust Fund - RFT, a fund administered by the World Bank and intended exclusively for the program. The remaining US$ 200 million will be apportioned in the form of co-associate financing.
