Norwegen Ärger eingehandelt. Entwicklungs- und
Hilfsorganisationen verweisen darauf, dass in
vielen Teilen Afrikas eine Hungersnot herrscht,
sie nannten die Idee geschmacklos. Der Sandwich
aus Pita-Brot soll sich an einem afrikanischen
Rezept orientieren und ist seit Kurzem auch in

Fast food giants McDonald's
are being attacked for launching the
"McAfrika" burger in Norway at the time

The sale of the new hamburger in one of Europe's
most affluent countries has provoked the anger of
the Norwegian Red Cross and the country's
Christian Aid campaign who say the launch is
"tasteless."
The pitta-style sandwich containing beef, cheese,
tomatoes and salad is said to be based on an
authentic African recipe and is sold for around
$4.25.

Aware that it has a public
relations embarrassment on its hands, McDonald's
Norway has been quick to launch a damage
limitation exercise, making conciliatory noises
in the Norwegian media. Margaret Brusletto, a
spokeswoman for the company, said she was sorry
the name of the product had offended
many."That wasn't our intention," she
told Aftenposten. "We acknowledge that we
have chosen an unfortunate time to launch this
new product."
However, the fast food chain has got support from
an unlikely source. The organisation African
Youth in Norway has attacked the aid
organisations for focusing too much on negative
aspects of the African continent. |
