The world's
biggest-ever forum on Aids concluded on 12th of
July, 2002, with a plea by former South African
President Nelson Mandela for an end to the stigma
of HIV.
He will be joined at the International Aids
Conference in Barcelona by former US President
Bill Clinton, who described the Aids epidemic as
"the worst thing since the bubonic plague
killed a quarter of Europe in the 14th
century".
Die 14. Welt-Aids-Konferenz
in Barcelona ging am 12.07.02 mit Appellen unter
anderem von Bill Clinton und Nelson Mandela für
mehr internationale Anstrengungen zum Kampf gegen
die Aidsepidemie zu Ende. Im Mittelpunkt stand
die Frage, wie möglichst vielen der weltweit 40
Millionen Träger des HI-Virus der Zugang zu
Aidsmedikamenten erleichtert werden kann. In den
Entwicklungsländern werden derzeit nur 230.000
Menschen - zwei bis drei Prozent aller Fälle -
therapiert. Im Afrika südlich der Sahara mit
seinen 28,5 Millionen Infizierten sind es gerade
30.000.
The economic and social
impact of HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa is far
more severe than previously thought and will
seriously undermine the development prospects of
affected countries, the International Labour
Office (ILO) says in a new analysis.
Die
wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Auswirkungen von
HIV/Aids in Subsahara Afrika sind viel
schwerwiegender als bisher angenommen. Sie werden
