CHAPTER 69

„Bad luck, poor man! ...
To think of these stars that you see overhead at night, these vast worlds which we can never reach. I would annex the planets if I could; I often think of that. It makes me sad to see them so clear and yet so far.
Yes, I once said this — am I therefore mad?“

Well, Mr. Rhodes, our stage seems to experience a change of controller just now. Whether we are going to experience a change in direction as well, we don’t know at this moment. Of course, we hope, the final destination won’t be a loony bin.
And we are not intending either to invite a certain John Crowley who, in 1989, published a novel, the tale of a time-machine that turns your last will into reality, in other words, the British Empire is the dominating world power and has as such prevented two World Wars … we don’t let tell this story because — it hasn’t been really your last will!
The last will that you quoted, the one that proposed a secret society to establish British world power, this one you had already composed in 1877. At that time you were not really a rich man yet, Mr. Rhodes, and you had by then — no lover. Five years later, you had one.
He was employed by DeBeers as secretary, and it did not take long before you two lived together. The young man was so precious to you that you skipped an important business-appointment to participate in his 25th birthday. At this occasion you rewrote your last will; you chose Neville Pickering to become your heir. In addition, your political inheritance became a bit more practical.

„No comment — with regard to Mr. Pickering ... In my last will and testament, I provided for the establishment of a Rhodes Scholarship, the world’s first international study programme. It should enable students from territories under British rule and from territories formerly under British rule to study at the University of Oxford. Therefore, I included American students as eligible for the scholarships because I wanted to breed an American elite of philosopher-kings who would have the United States rejoin the British Empire. As I also respected the Germans and admired the Kaiser, I allowed German students to be included in the scholarships as well.
You know, the idea was, to provide them not only with an excellent education but also with an understanding and the will to pursue Anglo-American values.

For more than a century, Rhodes scholars have left Oxford with virtually any job available to them. For much of this time, they have overwhelmingly chosen paths in scholarship, teaching, writing, medicine, scientific research, law, the military and public service. They have reached the highest levels in virtually all fields. There have been more than 7,000 Rhodes Scholars since the inception of the Trust. More than 4,000 are still living. Can you just name a couple of them who had this chance within more recent years?

„Wesley Clark — Ex-NATO-High Commander
Bill Clinton — Ex-President of the U.S.A.
Richard von Weizsäcker — Ex-President of Germany
Malcolm Fraser und Bob Hawke — both Ex-Premiers of Australia.“

And not Henry Kissinger — your alter ego?

„Well, the time-machine did not function. There was no British super power in the twentieth century anymore; the two World Wars were not prevented. Due to the political situation between 1914 and 1932 and again between 1939 and 1970, there was no scholarship for Germans. Henry Kissinger does belong to that generation in-between who managed to leave his homeland between the two big catastrophes; his parents emigrated with him to the U.S.A. in 1938.
There, Heinz did not have a problem to find as Henry another godfather who arranged for him an education with Anglo-American values at its core — and to make sure that he would find, later on, a domain where he would be able to bring them into effect …
If I understood everything correctly what has happened so far on this stage, you are blaming his godfather to pursue corporate interests in cartels. Now, what do cartels do?
I don’t understand your worries. If you want to maximise your profit, and with it your influence by extending your power, then a cartel is the best thing you can have; it simply provides security for all participating players: consumers will always get what they need, but only if they accept what is on offer.
Mr. Rockefeller, you certainly will agree: once our North American colonies emancipated themselves, turning into the United States of America, what happened?
Sort of an open society developed; every dishwasher could become a millionaire, no rules to prevent this. But to avoid that such cases disturb the already existing upper class, this class introduced a couple of mechanisms that leaves them on the safe side.
After the Civil War in America, in the middle of the 19th century, an elite emerged with its base along the East Coast of the U.S.A. with their centres in New York and in Boston. These elite are white, protestant and sees Britain’s culture as its spiritual home.
As you can imagine, I have built all hopes in my last will on this elite.
Members of these elite founded their own schools and universities where they make sure that only their own folks get educated. Exclusive student-associations guarantee that graduates will be shoved onto the right steps on their career-ladder, not much different from what had happened in good old Britain! Some call it old-boys’ networks. They take decisions that they feel are important to their society as they wish to see it, quite often over a dinner in the club, or whilst hunting or playing golf.
You see, this type of informal networking provides a special dynamic which is called the REVOLVING DOOR EFFECT; that means, one elite-person is changing without great ado from, let’s say, a leading position in the corporate world into a similar one in the military world, or into politics, into the media, into intelligence services, into science or even into the church. This rotation provides a most economical way to change with an extreme small number of elite-personnel fast and without much noise directions within your society if you wish so.
This REVOLVING DOOR EFFECT needs, of course, sort of an unconcerned blur of boundaries between private business and government. You see, what you can observe just now as a trend in Germany, the so-called PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP; is in the U.S.A. already for a long time a matter of daily practice, introduced when trusts and cartels became reality around the year 1900. Therefore, it is de facto these small East Coast Elite that hold all power. They would see themselves as ‚paternalistic‘: The povo does not know what is good for them. A handpicked elite has to think for them, isn’t that true, Mr. Rockefeller?
It started already before the First World War that the whole society was arranged from top to base according to the ideas of the ‚chosen few‘ with their offices in banks and in huge industrial cartels. One of the more talkative members of these elite was quite open about it. You will certainly have an original recording?

OF THE AMERICAN COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS!

.:.. The general interest … can be administered only by a specialised class whose personal attention is reaching beyond local themes. This class is freed of responsibility because it is acting on the base of information that is not owned by the society; in situations which the mass of the society does not understand … those men who are executing power, do not fail to reflect the will of the people because with regard to most subjects such a will is not existing; they execute the power based on convictions that are hidden from the electorate.

Mr, Rhodes, you may see yourself as part of these elite-capitalists, however, our teaching-books and our media lecture that the common capitalist has to compete with market-forces.

„Nothing against it. I even would say, that has been the most successful model for any economy as long as the real need of people had to be considered … unfortunately, that has no value anymore — since bankers are the players!“
